Easy Faux Finish ... briefly explaining the History of Faux Finishes and how this has led to the introduction of our modern range of Faux Painting Tools for the novice and the professional alike

Have you ever wanted to paint a feature wall ... or do up some furniture with something out of the ordinary?

You see a finish you like in a magazine or on a Lifestyle Show on TV ... they make it look so easy don’t they!

Then you start researching the faux painting finish you like ... and you find you need a whole host of bits and bobs ... and special paint mediums ... and a whole heap of practice. With many steps in the instructions before you reach your goal.

For a lot of us, it’s enough to put us off right from the start ... however the bravest of us set about having a go ... once you get started though, you find producing these styles of faux finishes is not only messy ... but more difficult to achieve than you’d thought and quite expensive once you’ve bought all the gear ... at least the bit of rag was cheap!

Some of us who are more artistically inclined can end up with the result they want ... but from the thousands of DIY painters we meet at the renovation and craft shows, this is not always how the story goes.

A Brief History of Faux Finish

“Faux Finish” is a term used to describe the centuries old practice of creating an “imitation” or “faux” finish that looks like the natural finish of ... stone ... marble ... timber ... limestone ... aged plaster, etc. These natural products were very expensive to use, so a whole new artform came about in an attempt to replicate these appealing finishes.

While early forms of “faux finishing” can be traced back to the Egyptian and Greeks ... and then the Romans ... it was during the “Renaissance Period” that the Italians and French began developing and refining these techniques as a means of reproducing natural finishes without the huge expense of the natural products.

“Faux finishing” then became a qualified trade, taking years of training to become a “crafstman”. Then later during the “Industrial Revolution” the art was somewhat lost as cheaper, prefabricated representations flooded the market ... but they lacked the depth and warmth of the artisans work.

Modern Times

It wasn’t until the phenomena of the “Lifestyle Shows” came about that renewed interest in Faux Finishes was launched on the world arena ... I can tell you that in our first 15 years (since 1980) distributing the “Easi-Paint Home Decorators Kit there were very few mentions of “Faux Finish” ... then the requests started flooding in from new and existing customers to find a way they could produce these beautiful finishes without the training, expertise and specialised mediums traditionally required.

Our Solution

The Research and Development Team in England set about designing simple to use, modern “paint tools” to replace the age old messy methods; and which allow us to quickly and easily create a wide range of Faux Finishes such as ... Stippling ... Sponging ... Marbling ... Colour washing ... Distressing ... Limewashing ... Ageing ... Dragging ... Honeycomb texturing ... Fine Distressing ... Basketweaving ... Woodgraining ... and many more, in just a couple of simple steps. Eeither traditional or nouveaux, it doesn’t have to look like stone to look great ... and what’s great is they do this with the standard paints you would normally paint your house with saving time, using a lot less paint and creating fabulous results.

The “Easi-Paint” philosophy as always is ... Half the time ... Half the Paint ... any of the Faux Finish Range will repay their own cost in just one large wall from what you save in paint!

The large size to fit the large handle of the Easi-Paint Home Decorators Kit. Primarily for feature walls ... decorative driveways ... brick and render exterior walls ... all the bigger jobs ...

The medium size to fit the medium handle of the decorators kit. A perfect size for furniture ... small or half walls ... corrugated sheeting ... curved shapes (like cornice) ... small to medium cupboards ... medium sized planters & pots ... larger craft pieces and much more ... you can also work with the medium Faux Pads in the flat position or it can be adjusted to 3 different curved positions to cater for most shapes!
